COURSE HOURS 2.0 CPE (0.2 CEU)
OVERVIEW

“The hand is, in the highest degree, a human characteristic. It is man's organ of grasp and of the sense of touch, while in animals these two functions are relegated to the mouth.” – Maria Montessori

This course teaches successive methods for letter formations as well as identifying short and long vowel sounds. It begins with building the fine motor skills in students that will help them in writing and goes on to present the sequential steps in how to write using lower case letters first and flows into how to mark short and long vowels in preparation for both reading and writing.

Despite technological advances, learning how to form letters is still important. It is linked to greater proficiency in basic reading and spelling achievement. This is because the experience of forming letters helps the student internalize the pattern and the sounds of the letters.

The presentations on the formations are based on the Montessori approach of letter formations. Teaching the correct flow and movement for each letter is a critical part of this course. You will learn the approach for proper letter formation using the least number of strokes per letter. You will also learn to evaluate students using the ‘three-period lesson.’
