COURSE NAME/ID Transportation Safety for Child Care (CPE,CEU) (CC17)
COURSE HOURS 2.0 CPE (0.2 CEU)
OVERVIEW

This course is designed to provide basic minimum standards for transporting children in the child-care setting. It uses the Texas licensing standards and state legislative law as the basis for its minimum standards. It is important that you follow the guidelines of your state and licensing agency for specific requirements for transporting children and use of safety restraint systems.

Child-care center directors should also develop best practices for their child-care center. These best practices enhance the minimum standards to meet the specific needs of the children in their center. Directors must provide training to caregivers so that these procedures are followed consistently when transporting children.

OBJECTIVES

Learners will develop specific skills through interactive and action-based lessons. These include:

  • Selecting and properly installing passenger safety restraint systems for every child you will be transporting
  • Following the manufacturer’s instructions for placing each child in the age-appropriate safety restraint device
  • Understanding the transportation emergency plan developed for your center
  • Following procedures to ensure the safety of children
  • Following field trip guidelines and best practices
